ALCORN STATE, Ms. – The Alcorn State University Athletic
Department has officially released the 2004 football schedule,
which features 11 games and two classics.
In September, the Braves will look to avenge last year’s tough home
loss to the Tigers of Grambling State at Grambling before taking to the road
to clash against the Aggies of North Carolina A&T in the Chicago Classic
to be played at the newly renovated Soldier Field. Alcorn will then take on
Alabama State to end the month after a bye week.
Following their second bye in three weeks, Alcorn returns to action to face
Prairie View before returning back to the “Academic Resort” for
Homecoming against Texas Southern University. The Braves will then look to
make it three in a row over Southern before heading to visit the Lions of Southeastern
Louisiana University.
The final month of the season will be a true test as Alcorn travels to Mississippi
Valley State, Alabama A&M and Jackson State before playing in the season-finale
against Arkansas Pine Bluff on Thanksgiving weekend.
Alcorn (7-5, 5-2) should be projected to finish near the top of the Eastern
division standings as the Braves finished in a two-way tie for first with Alabama
State last year. After getting off to a sub-par start, the Braves finished
the 2003 campaign with a five-game win streak.
