Weather and Illness Force A Pair Of WSSU Basketball Cancellations
December 4, 2003
Winston-Salem, NC - The WSSU Athletic Department has announced
that inclement weather, and an bronchitis outbreak have forced
a pair of cancellations for the Winston-Salem State University
basketball teams.
The Lady Rams, who were scheduled to travel to Jefferson City,
TN Thursday afternoon to take on the Carson-Newman College
Eagles in a non-conference women's basketball contest at 6:00
pm on
Thursday evening have been forced to postpone their travel
due to Tennessee State Police limiting unnecessary road travel
in response to adverse weather conditions. The Lady Rams will
re-schedule the game and will take on the Lady Eagles on an
as yet to be determined date.
The Lady Rams are not the only WSSU team bitten by the cancellation
bug, as the C.E. "Bighouse" Gaines Classic scheduled
for Friday and Saturday of this weekend has been changed due
to Wilberforce University being unable to compete. Wilberforce
officials have announced that due to an outbreak of bronchitis,
they will be unable to participate in this weekend's tournament
due to not having enough healthy players to compete.
The four-game tournament will now be reduced to a pair of
games as Johnson C. Smith University will take on Glenville
State on Friday evening at 5:00 pm at the Gaines Center, and
Winston-Salem State will be in action on Saturday at 5:00 pm
versus Glenville State.
Wilberforce and WSSU officials are working towards rescheduling
the contest for a later date this season.
