Texas Southern University Head Football Coach Bill Thomas Resigns
December 2, 2003
Houston, TX - Texas Southern University head
football Coach Bill Thomas has announced his resignation effective
immediately. Associate Athletic Director Ricky Holden
will assume the administrative duties for Coach Thomas until
the position is filled.
Coach Thomas recorded four winning seasons in his 10-year
coaching career at TSU. Prior to his tenure, the University
had not had a winning season since 1977 (6-4-1). Thomas was
instrumental in the student athletes receiving a graduation
rate higher than the student body at Texas Southern. Thomas
ended his coaching stint at TSU with a record of 49-58 and
a career record of 84-82-3.
“
I would like to thank Coach Thomas for his outstanding commitment
and accomplishments,” Athletic Director Alois Blackwell
said. “We are looking forward to using his foundation
to build a strong program.”
Blackwell said a nationwide search for a new head coach will
begin immediately.
