FAMU advances; Alabama A&M falls in NCAA Volleyball Championships

Atlanta, GA – Florida A&M swept Winthrop, 3-0, and
Alabama A&M was shutout by Georgia Tech in first round
play of the NCAA Division I Volleyball Regional Tournament.
FAMU (27-3) topped Winthrop (24-13) in three straight matches;
31-29, 30-16, 30-27. The MEAC Champs were led by Adriana Kostadinova
with 21 kills and 6 digs. Andreina Ruiz had 16 kills and 10
digs for the Rattlerettes.
SWAC Champion Alabama A&M wasn’t as fortunate against
host Georgia Tech (32-3). The Lady Bulldogs lost three straight
matches, 30-18, 30-17, 30-22, to finish their season at 23-6.
AAMU’s middle blocker and SWAC Tournament MVP Lutasha
Bradley finished the evening with just 9 kills. Alex Brazelton
had 6 kills and 8 digs while Phyllis Hetie finished with 6
kills and 6 digs.
Georgia Tech advances to face Florida A&M Friday at 7:00pm
in second round action for the right to move on to the Sweet
16, which is scheduled for December 12-13 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
