CHARLOTTE, NC - Johnson C. Smith University
has announced its 2004 football schedule, including three home
games, two of which will be played at the Irwin Belk Complex.
Like most of their CIAA counterparts, JCSU's schedule has taken
on a new look from last year. NC Central University - the first
game of the season...Homecoming - the last game of the season,
only two games versus eastern division foes and the final regular
season game in October.
Being on the road seems to be what JCSU has to look forward
to as they play the first six of the 10-game schedule on the
road. The season opener will see the Golden Bulls taking on
the Eagles of NC Central University on August 28. The last
time the Golden Bulls met the Eagles in Durham, JCSU spoiled
the Eagles' Homecoming 29-14.
The entire month of September will see the Golden Bulls making
stops in Raleigh, NC (Shaw University - 9/4), Statesboro, GA
(Georgia Southern University - 9/11), Atlanta, GA (Morehouse
College - 9/18) and Spartanburg, SC (Wofford College - 9/25).
This is the first time that JCSU has played Wofford College
in any intercollegiate sport.
The month of October commences the rigorous five-game conference
run beginning with the Blue Bears of Livingstone College, on
October 2. On October 9, the first home game of the season
will feature the Golden Bulls against the Falcons of St. Augustine's
College. After St. Augustine's, JCSU will play at Fayetteville
State University on October 16 and then entertain the Rams
of Winston-Salem State University on October 23.
Rounding out the regular season are the Bulldogs of Bowie State
University, who come into town on October 30. This will also
be Homecoming 2004 scheduled to be played at American Legion
Memorial Stadium at 1:00 p.m.
