Brathwaite will be the fourth Southern player/coach to participate in this program. Jerry Flowers (Cincinnati Reds), Don Thomas (Atlanta Braves) & Marco Paddy (Atlanta Braves) are all former Jaguars who have benefitted from this internship. Paddy recently was promoted to Assistant Director of Player Development fo the Atlanta Braves.

Tyrone Brooks, Assistant for Player Personnel for the Atlanta Braves, says, "it speaks volumes of the quality of the Southern University candidates, that the Jaguars have been able to place coaches in this program, that have been able to further their careers in professional baseball on the player development side of the organization."

Brooks also says that the Braves, as well as other teams have had success with this program.

"The Braves are in their 9th year of this program, and its 10 days of intense scouting and development training, and it opens the door for potential scouting and player development candidates. We are only one of two teams and other than the Major League Scouting Bureau, no one else is doing this type of program.. We have had a lot of success with it (Internship Program), and other teams have called us looking for qualified personnel from this program. It can open the door for persons with any team, not just the Braves," Brooks added.

Brathwaite, a native of St. Croix, Virgin Islands, was a 1993 draft pick of the Seattle Mariners, who proceeded to Broward Community College in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He then came to Southern University in the spring of 1996. He won two consecutive championships as a member of the Jaguars Baseball Team in 1996 and 1997, as a second baseman and centerfielder. He is also a 1998 graduate of Southern University. Since joining the Jaguar Coaching Staff, Brathwaite has also been in on three SWAC Championships, and three trip to the NCAA Regionals.

"I spoke with Marco Paddy this summer and he asked me if I would be interested and here we are today. This is a great opportunity for myself and our program. The experience and being able to put my foot in the door in the professional ranks is an opportunity in itself," says Brathwaite, who is in his 5th season an assistant coach under Roger Cador.

"I am extremely pleased that Arnold has been chosen for such a program. He is a hard working young man that is important to our program. This shows that we (Southern Baseball) are on the right track when it comes to our program and where we want it to go", says Roger Cador of Brathwaite.

"Having talented people around me like Arnold is a testament to the success of our program." "This is a huge stepping stone for me career-wise. It also shows that there are people out there looking at our program and the success we are having and are attributing it to the people that surround our program. This experience and the chance to bring back some new and refreshing ideas to our program will be an invaluable asset", says Brathwaite.
