SCSU To Enshrine Nine in Hall of Fame

Orangeburg, SC - South Carolina State will induct nine new members into its Athletic Hall of Fame Friday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m. at the Kirkland W. Green Student Center. The enshrinement ceremony will be preceded by a 6 p.m. reception. The inductees will be presented at halftime of the Wofford - S.C. State football game the following day.

Making up the 2002 class of inductees are six former players and three others. The former players include R.C. Gamble (football) a 1968 graduate who now lives in Fairfax, Virginia; Edward P. Lee (football), a 1981 graduate of Washington, DC; Robert “Bobby” Mays (basketball), a 1972 graduate who now lives in Augusta; Wanda Pittman (basketball), a 1987 graduate who now lives in Orangeburg; Andrew Rodrigues (track), a 1959 graduate of Georgetown; and James Quarles (football), a 1978 graduate who now makes his home in Augusta.

Others scheduled for enshrinement are benefactors William Blakeney, a 1948 graduate who now lives in Charlotte and Julius Page, a 1951 graduate of Orangeburg; along with broadcaster William “Bill” Terrell of Columbia, the play-by-play announcer for Bulldog football network for over 20 years.

Tickets for the event are $50 each for adults and $35 for children 12 years old and under. Tickets are available at the SCSU Office of Development (803-536-8761) in the Crawford-Zimmerman Complex.
