Service Set For Charles E. Mooney

A memorial service for Charles E. Mooney will be held on Thursday, September 19,
2002 at 11 a.m. ET. The site of the service will be the Williamson
Mortuary, 1410 Highway 138 SW, Riverdale, GA 30296, phone number
(770) 907-8548.
Mooney had been Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations
for the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and lost
his battle with cancer on Saturday, September 14.
He had a long and distinguished career in media and public
relations having worked at several HBCUs including his alma mater,
Fayetteville State University where he became an information specialist
following his graduation in 1979. He gained additional experience
as a public affairs specialist in the United States Army.
He served on the sports informaton staff at Norfolk State University and was sports information director for two years at Fort Valley State University, for five years at N.C. A&T State
University and for two years at Morris Brown College.
He was on his second stint
in the SIAC Conference Office having worked for both Commissioners,
Wallace Jackson and Robert Vowels.
He was a member of several professional organizations and served on the Board of Directors of the Black College Sports Information Directors Association (BCSIDA).
During a recognition presentation for him at this year's SIAC
Football Roundup, Mooney was described as "the heart and
soul of the SIAC Conference Office."
His spirit and dedication will never be replaced.
General Directions to the Memorial Service from Atlanta:
Take I-285 South to Highway 85 towards Riverdale, continue on
Highway 85 once you see the Wal-Mart on the left hand side of
the road begin looking for Highway 138 and make a right on Highway
138. Stay on Highway 138 for approximately 1.2 miles and the Williamson
Mortuary will be on the left.
