Howard Women Picked To Win MEAC Again
Hampton's Dixon named Preseason Player of the Year

Greensboro, NC - Howard University, winners of last year's MEAC regular season title, has been picked by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference head coaches and Sports Information Directors to win the 2002-03 MEAC regular season title for the second consecutive year. Hampton Lady Pirate senior guard LaShondra Dixon has also been selected the MEAC preseason Player of the Year.

Despite losing the 2001-02 MEAC Player of the Year, Andrea Gardner, Howard looks to still be the top team in the MEAC. The Lady Bison return senior forward Courtney Kirk, senior guard Asia Petty, and junior guard Simone Agee.

Dixon, a 5-5 senior from Sparta, GA, led the Lady Pirates in scoring last season with 17.6 points per game and also made the MEAC All-Conference & All-Tournament first teams last season. Joining Dixon in the backcourt of the All-MEAC preseason first team will be Nicole Rhem of South Carolina State. Rhem, a 5-9 junior from Brooklyn, NY, averaged 12 points and 5.4 rebounds per contest last season for the Lady Bulldogs.

In the frontcourt, Kirk of Howard, Lauren Forsthoff of Bethune-Cookman and Nicole Brathwaite of Hampton were selected as preseason first team choices. Kirk, a 6-2 forward from Fairfield, AL, averaged 12.5 points along with 5.5 rebounds per game. Forsthoff, a 6-0 junior from Lafayette, LA, was All-MEAC first team last season and led the Lady Wildcats in scoring at 12.7 points per contest. Brathwaite, a 6-1 junior from Houston, TX, average 9.1 points along with 6.8 rebounds for the Lady Pirates last season.
