PRINCESS ANNE, MD-James "Jim" Burbridge, Assistant
Director of Athletics for Events Management and Game Operations
died Monday night from heart complications. He was 51. "Jim"
was playing the game that he loved, basketball, when he collapsed
on the court of the William P. Hytche Athletic Center. He was
playing in a pick-up game on the main arena's court. The UMES
Sports Medicine Staff and Emergency Medical Technicians were
unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead at Peninsula Regional
Medical Center upon arrival.

Jim was best known for his sense of humor, willingness to work
with anyone, and compassion for others around him. He enjoyed
Harley Davidson motorcycles, Athletics, golf, and, most importantly,
his family. He is survived by his mother, Jean, two daughters,
Tiffany and Ebony (Pooh), and a son D.J. He was born and raised
in Cincinnati, OH. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
Before coming to UMES Jim had served as Director of Football
Operations at Alabama State University, Assistant Athletic Director
for Academics at Tennessee State University and as Athletic
Academic Coordinator with Men's Basketball at the University
of Cincinnati. Before those appointments he was the Assistant
Basketball Coach and Director of Community and Media Relations
for Louisville Professional Basketball Inc. Jim also was a Men's
Basketball Assistant Coach and Academic Advisor for Athletics
at the University of Toledo and an Athletic Academic Counselor
at Iowa State University.
