Texas College recently announced that it was bringing a football
program back to the college. At the time of the formal announcement,
Dr. Billy C. Hawkins, president of Texas College, anticipated
naming the new head football coach within weeks.
Hawkins
has done just that. Mr. Jay Brown will officially be introduced
as Texas College’s football coach and athletic director
Wednesday, November 6 at 11:00 a.m. in the Martin Hall Auditorium.
Brown worked with the defensive line, running backs, and defensive
ends for several years at New Mexico State University and Stephen
F. Austin University. He coordinated the Mississippi Valley
State University defense for three years. Brown has received
recognition as a player and as a coach.
Brown is a member of the American Football Coaches Association,
the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a board member of the
College Bound Student Association and the Black Coaches Association
(BCA) among others.
“I know Coach Brown is going to be a valuable member
of our team,” said Hawkins. “I believe he has what
it takes to begin and build our program. We look forward to
many winning seasons under his direction.”
