(JACKSON, Miss.)--Jackson State University Athletics Director
Roy Culberson announced Tuesday that Tiger Head Football Coach
Robert Hughes’ contract will not be renewed and that a
recommendation has been made to JSU President Ronald Mason,
Jr. for Hughes’ reassignment in another capacity at the
University. Culberson also indicated that a search would begin
immediately for Hughes’ replacement.
Hughes, who served as the Tigers head coach for four years,
compiled a 30-15 career record. In 1999, he guided the team
to a 9-3 overall record and a berth in the inaugural Southwestern
Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championship in Birmingham, Alabama
where they lost to Southern, 31-30.
The Tigers have posted a 7-4 overall record for the past three
seasons.
