Florida A&M Picked to Win MEAC Football title

Greensboro, NC ­ The Head Football Coaches and Sports Information Directors of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference have picked Florida A&M University to successfully defend its league title in the upcoming 2002 season.

Last Year, the Rattlers won the title with a 7-1 conference mark and a 7-4 over-all finish. North Carolina A&T who was second in the pre-season voting, finished the 2001 campaign in third place with a 5-3 MEAC record and an 8-3 over-all finish. Hampton University who finished second last year with a 6-2 MEAC mark (7-4 over-all), is picked to finished third. Bethune-Cookman (5-3, 6-4) is picked fourth, South Carolina State University (5-3, 6-5) is picked fifth, Delaware State University (3-5, 5-6) is the sixth choice, Howard University (1-7, 2-9) is seventh, Norfolk State University (3-5, 5-6) is eighth and Morgan State University (1-7, 2-9) is ninth.

FAMU received 12 of the 18 first place votes and accumulated 254 points of a maximum 288. N.C. A&T had two first place votes and totaled 210 points. Hampton had 204 points and Bethune-Cookman has two first place votes and a total of 190 points. S.C. State received 134 points, Delaware State 97 points, Howard 84, Norfolk State 63 points and one first place vote and Morgan State has 46 points.
