Hampton's
Men and Women Sweep MEAC Indoor Track Championships

Landover, MD – The Hampton University men and women’s
indoor track teams captured won the 2003 Mid-Eastern Athletic
Conference Indoor Track Championships held at the Prince George’s
Learning & Sports Complex.
The meet saw five records established, four in the men’s
division. New marks were established in the pole vault by David
Stephens (S.C. State/17’4) the old mark (15’7) was
held by Brent Vanderpool (Delaware State/1988), the long jump
by Darryl Reeves (S.C. State/25’1) the old mark (24’7.25)
was held by David Barnett (FAMU/1998), the 200 meters by Jerome
Mathis (Hampton/ 21.48) the old mark (21.7) was held by Troy
McIntosh (Morgan State/1993) and the 4 X 400 meters by Hampton
University (3:16.64) the mark (3:36.8) was held by Florida A&M
(1998) in the men’s competition. In the women’s
division a new mark was set in the long jump by Tawana Norman
(N.C. A&T) with a jump of 20’5”, the old mark
(20’4) was held by Brenda Bailey (Howard/1985).
Hampton University’s Jade Fisher and Jerome
Mathis were named the 2003 outstanding performers. Fisher scored
26 points for the Lady Pirates, while Mathis scored 37.5 points.
Outstanding coaches were Maurice Pierce (women) and David Boyd,
both of Hampton University.
