Jacksonville, FL-- -- Pairings have been set for the 2003 Eastern
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (EIAC) Men's and Women's
Annual Basketball Tournament set for this Friday, February 28
through Sunday, March 2 in Fayetteville, NC. The games will
be held at the Cumberland County Coliseum Complex-Arena. Opening
round eliminations begin on Friday and the championships are
set for Sunday (3:00pm for the ladies and 5:30pm for the men).
On each day, a women's game will tip off action followed by
a men's game and the contests alternate accordingly. The number
one and number two seeded teams receive byes on Friday and all
times are eastern standard. Commissioner Ken Free made the announcement
from his Florida office.
In the women's tournament on Friday, number four seeded Voorhees
(5-5, 7-19) opens up play against number five Morris (2-8, 4-21)
at 2:00pm. At 6:00pm, number three Edward Waters (6-4, 7-15)
plays number six Allen (1-9, 1-24). On Saturday, number one
seeded Claflin (9-1, 17-11) faces the winner of the Voorhees-Morris
match at 12:00 noon and number two Barber-Scotia (7-3, 11-12)
plays the winner of the Edward Waters-Allen game at 4:00pm.
On Sunday, the women's championship begins at 3:00pm.
In the men's tournament Friday at 4:00pm, number four seeded
Voorhees (4-6, 14-9) plays number five Morris (2-8, 5-15) and
in the 8:00pm nightcap, number three Allen (5-5, 9-18) meets
number six Claflin (1-9, 6-19). In Saturday's matches, number
one Barber-Scotia (10-0, 22-7) plays the winner of the Voorhees-Morris
game at 2:00pm, while number two Edward Waters (8-2, 15-13)
faces the winner of the Allen-Claflin game. The men's championship
game is scheduled for Sunday at 5:30pm.
Edward Waters won both the men's and women's Tournament titles
last year.
