EIAC Basketball Roundup

Greensboro, NC--The Eastern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (EIAC) men's and women's teams have reached the midway point of regular season play as they sharpen up for the Annual Basketball Tournament set for February 28 through March 2 in Fayetteville, NC. The games will be held at the Cumberland County Coliseum Complex-Arena.

Barber-Scotia College's men and women have taken early control in the standings, but several teams are in pursuit.

Men
Barber-Scotia jumped out to a 6-0 conference record after its 64-54 homecoming win over Allen University Saturday night, February 1. Their closest pursuer, Edward Waters College, downed visiting Claflin University 83-68 that night to raise its league mark to 3-1. Allen fell to 3-2 in the EIAC and Claflin is winless at 0-5. Voorhees College, 88-74 losers at B-SC last Monday, stands in at 2-3, while that same night Morris College (1-4) dropped its match to visiting Allen.

Barber-Scotia is 17-7 overall and received votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 rankings. The EIAC tournament champion receives an automatic berth to the NAIA national championship.

This Week's EIAC Schedule
Morris hosts Voorhees Monday, February 3 in the lone EIAC battle. On Thursday, February 6, Edward Waters is at Voorhees and Morris travels to Claflin. Saturday, February 8 has showdown clashes as B-SC visits Edward Waters and third place Allen entertains Claflin.

Statistical Leaders
B-SC's Davont Jackson, a 6-7 senior guard-forward, leads the EIAC in scoring with 19.2 points per game. His teammate Phillip Hillstock, a 6-7 junior forward, carries a 13.1-point average for sixth best. Claflin's 6-0 senior guard Tavarus Mack is second in league scoring with an average of 15.6 points per game. Claflin 5-10 sophomore guard Nicolas Figgs and 6-3 sophomore forward Jarode Oliver average 14.5 and 13.7 points respectively. Renardo Norman, a 6-3 junior guard for Edward Waters is fifth in EIAC scoring with 13.3 ppg.

The top EIAC rebounder is Edward Waters' 6-7 senior forward Delancy Johnson, who pulls down 10.5 per contest. Hillstock is second at 8.7 rebounds per game and Oliver is third at 5.8 per outing. Corey Eveans of Claflin averages 5.2 rebounds and Jackson 5.0.

Women
The Barber-Scotia ladies won their fifth straight conference contest with a homecoming win over Allen Saturday night and are perched atop the EIAC standings at 5-1. Second place Claflin slipped to 4-1 after losing at Edward Waters 69-61. The win improved Edward Waters to 3-1 in conference action. Allen dropped to 0-5. Voorhees stands at 2-3, losing at B-SC last Monday 88-74 and Morris is 1-4 after defeating Allen that night.

This Week's Women's EIAC Schedule
Voorhees travels to Morris in the only EIAC match Monday, February 3. On February 6 (Thursday), Morris is at Claflin and Edward Waters visits Voorhees. On February 8 (Saturday), Claflin is at Allen and Edward Waters hosts B-SC.
