August 13, 2002
TIFFIN, OHIO – Eleven NCAA Division II independent football
institutions will be represented in the Independent Football Alliance,
a new association that intends to draw attention to numerous Division
II football players throughout the 2002 season.
The Independent Football Alliance is an association of 11 NCAA
Division II independent institutions consisting of the University
of California-Davis, Gannon University (PA), Lincoln University
(MO), Kentucky Wesleyan College, University of New Haven
(CT), North Greenville College (SC), Oklahoma Panhandle State
University, Quincy University (IL), St. Joseph's College (IN),
Tiffin University (OH), and Western New Mexico University. The
IFA will honor Players of the Week each week as well as an All-IFA
team (athletes and scholars) after the season.
Players of the Week, results, schedules, and other information
will be posted on the official IFA website at www.tiffin.edu/ifa.
“The IFA will be a great way for our young men to get
the recognition they deserve on their weekly and season long accomplishments,”
said Head Coach (Interim) Fred Manuel about the newly formed alliance.
And went on to add, “Being an Independent school, in the
past you have to go 11-0 to get anyone to look your way, I believe
this alliance will help in that manner.”
