Ford's 2002 Ultimate Black College Football Road Trip Tabs Howard, South Carolina State Grads

HBCU Graduates Tour Football Classics Across U.S. Promoting 2003 Ford Expedition and the HBCU Experience

August 21, 2002

DETROIT - Ford Motor Co. has announced it has selected Logan Coles and Damon White as the "Roadies" on the 2002 Ford No Boundaries Ultimate Black College Football Road Trip. The trip will launch Labor Day weekend at the Aggie-Eagle Classic in Raleigh, N.C. ending at the Bayou Classic in New Orleans, Nov. 30.

Coles and White will be handed the keys to a fully loaded 2003 Expedition as they set out on the adventure of a lifetime covering 8,492 miles, 40 cities, 10 Ford dealerships, and 13 Historically Black College and Universities (HBCU) classics with an audience of more than 500,000 people. Coles, a graduate of Howard University, and White, a graduate of South Carolina State University, will make weekly appearances on the nationally syndicated radio show, The Doug Banks Show, while filming their activities and day-to-day lives during the trip for a weekly segment on Major Black College Sports Weekly.

In between stops at these cultural events the "Roadies" will be performing community service with groups like Meals on Wheels, and acting as promoters of the new 2003 Expedition at events and dealerships. The goal this year is to employ the vehicle as a tool to help serve the community.

"This trip is another example of our No Boundaries mind-set," said Richard Stoddart, Ford Division Marketing Communications Manager. "These two young people are going hit the road with a Ford Expedition, show their HBCU pride and give back to the community along the way. They truly personify the No-Boundaries attitude."

The 2001 inaugural Road Trip was strictly an East Coast venture, but this year the "Roadies" will be following the HBCU culture as it roars over the Rockies into Las Vegas for the Silver Dollar Classic, as well as venturing into Texas, Fla., Ala., Tenn. and Washington, D.C.

White was born and raised in Columbia, S.C. and is an alum of South Carolina State University, the only public HBCU in S.C. Upon graduation from high school, White chose to attend an HBCU for the unique experience and to support minority educational initiatives. White always wanted to be someone who would be remembered, so he majored in education, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and Sports Communication.

Coles is a recent graduate of the Howard University School of Communications Cum Laude, with a Bachelor of Arts in Film Production, and a minor in Theatre Arts. A native of Washington, D.C., Coles, his brother and sister were always encouraged by their mother to "follow (their) hearts," and as a result each ended up in the performing arts.

"I entered Howard a naïve teenager, and I left as a focused young man ready to take on the world," Coles said of his HBCU experience. "The seed planted by Howard inspired me to take what I've learned to disadvantaged urban youth and Ford is giving us that chance."

To learn more about the roadies and to keep up with the road trip, follow them weekly on Major Black College Sports Weekly and on the Web at www.fordroadtrip.com.
