Four more HBCU products have joined
the list of NFL Draftees. The League completed seven rounds
of selections on Sunday.
Alabama A&M defensive end Robert
Mathis was selected by Indianapolis
in the fifth round.
Three players were picked in the
sixth round. Zuriel Smith, a wide receiver from Hampton was
selected by the Dallas Cowboys. Howard offensive tackle Marques
Odgen was picked by Jacksonville and Tuskegee defensive back
Frank Walker was chosen by the New York Giants.
A total of eight players from HBCUs were selected in the 2003
NFL Draft. Tuskegee had two players chosen
while Bethune-Cookman, Arkansas-Pine
Bluff, Morgan State, Alabama
A&M, Hampton and Howard each had one draftee.
The Chargers, Giants and Jaguars selected two HBCU players
each. The Colts and Cowboys selected the other two.
