Livingstone 37, Johnson C. Smith 19

SALISBURY, NC- October 19, 2002 – In a cool and breezy evening game, the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University (1-6, 0-4 CIAA) took on the Blue Bears of Livingstone College (1-6, 1-4 CIAA). In the total net yards column, JCSU won that battle ending the day with 302 yards compared to Livingstone’s 283, but nothing more than poor performance can be said for this week’s loss on the road. A myriad of interceptions (5), sacks (10), and penalties (11 for 151 yards) kept the team down and out of the ball game. Livingstone won the game, 37-19.

Linebacker, Johnny Martin, wide receiver, Craig Brown and quarterback Spencer Mayo led the way for the Golden Bulls. Martin finished the day with 9 tackles (2 solo, 7 assisted), one tackle for a loss of 4 yards, one interception, one sack for four yards and one quarterback hurry. Brown had seven receptions for 183 yards and three touchdowns. Mayo, who played a little over a quarter, completed 10 of 21 passes for 170 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Next week, the Golden Bulls will take on the Broncos of Fayetteville State University who are undefeated in conference action this season. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. For ticket information, contact Reginald Douglas at (704) 378-1205.
