Fayetteville State 21, N.C. Central 7

FAYETTEVILLE, NC -- North Carolina Central University lost four fumbles in a 21-7 loss at Fayetteville State University, all but eliminating the Eagles from the CIAA Western Division race and nearly sealing the deal for the Broncos.

All three FSU touchdowns came as a result of NCCU fumbles.

First, defensive back Phil Crumb returned Eagle quarterback Lawrence Fuller's fumble 54 yards for the Broncos' initial score at 12:19 of the first quarter.

Then, with less than two minutes left in the first half, Fuller mishandled the snap from center and the Broncos recovered at the 5-yard line. Two plays later, DeAngelo Bridgers danced to the end zone from 5 yards out to give FSU a 14-7 lead with 1:27 before halftime.

Finally, Nathaniel Fitch, Jr. coughed up an Eagle punt return, which was scooped up by FSU's Dustin McCormick for a 14-yard touchdown return.

NCCU (3-3, 1-2 CIAA) nearly doubled the Broncos' total offensive output, 240 yards to 123 yards. Additionally, the Eagles recorded 15 first downs, while FSU only moved the chains six times.

FSU linebacker Brian Holliday had a stellar night, amassing 14 tackles, including three hits for a loss, a fumble recovery and a pass break-up. Shawn Morgan recorded 9 tackles, including three sacks, and a fumble recovery.

Bronco quarterback Te'Mon Wallace completed 11-of-20 passes for 80 yards and an interception. Bridgers finished with 67 yards on 20 carries and caught 2 passes for 18 yards.

NCCU quarterback Lawrence Fuller had a rough night, fumbling three times and getting sacked on six occasions. He did, however, managed to complete 11-of-28 pass attempts for 125 yards to top the Eagles. NCCU running back Anthony Saunders led the ground game with 46 yards on six carries.

Eagle linebacker Bobby Brown tallied a team-high 10 tackles (8 solo), including a sack.

Fayetteville State (5-1, 4-0) now needs to win just one of its three remaining conference games to clinch the CIAA Western Division title and a trip to the conference championship game.
