N.C. A&T 36, Norfolk State 10GREENSBORO, NC Doug Brown caught two touchdown passes while N.C. A&T gained over 350 yards of total offense to lead the Aggies over Norfolk State, 36-10, in front of 12,525 at Aggie Stadium.N.C. A&T (3-2, 1-0 MEAC) trailed 3-0 after a 36-yard Gideon Tekola field goal on Norfolk State’s (2-2, 0-2) opening drive. From that point on, the famed “Blue Death” defense took over, as they sacked Spartan quarterbacks Dontrell Leonard and David Johnson seven times and allowed just 62 yards rushing. Also, the Spartans managed to convert only two of 16 third downs, and punted 12 times. Brown got the Aggies on the scoreboard, beating the secondary for a 35-yard TD pass from Jason Battle, putting the home team ahead, 7-3. Second-string quarterback Jason Douglas relieved Battle in the second quarter and immediately led his team on a four play, 68-yard drive, which he capped with a six-yard run, putting N.C. A&T ahead, 13-3. Douglas completed 14-yard passes to D’Brian Hudgins and Jamal Jones on the drive. Douglas would then complete the half with a 30-yard scoring pass to Brown, putting the Aggies up 19-3 at the half. Micheaux Hollingworth continued the Aggie scoring binge in the third quarter, as he pounced on a Battle fumble in the end zone, making the score 26-3 with 12:06 remaining. After Pat Simcox added a 35-yard field goal, Hollingsworth added a 14-yard TD reception from Douglas to increase the Aggie lead to 36-3. Jarnae Somerville ended the scoring with a 15-yard TD pass from Johnson. Douglas had a proficient evening, completing 11 of 18 passes for 135 yards and the two scores. He also added 36 yards on the ground to lead the rushing attack. Battle added 132 yards of total offense, throwing for 112 yards and rushing for 21 more. Brown, a true freshman, had 71 yards receiving on just three receptions. William Smith led Norfolk State’s offense with 66 yards rushing on 18 carries. Somerville caught three passes for 55 yards to lead the receivers. Shaun Jones led the Aggie defense with nine tackles (five solos), while Vereese Utley and Marvin Blackstock had two sacks each. Jacques Philistin led the Norfolk State with eight tackles. N.C. A&T will host Morgan State next Saturday as they celebrate homecoming. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 pm.
