N.C. A&T 34, Elon 20

The Aggies (2-2) trailed 17-14 until backup quarterback Jason Douglas connected with Jamal Jones on a 55-yard touchdown pass with 9:14 remaining in the final period. Pat Simcox missed the extra point as the Aggies led 20-17.

On the ensuing Aggie possession, Douglas pass was tipped and intercepted by Chris Geter, who returned it 21 yards to the Elon 46-yard line. The turnover led to a 38-yard field goal by Anthony Turowski, which tied the game at 20-20.

Aggie wide receiver Brad Hinton fielded the ensuing kickoff and dashed 87 yards to the Elon four-yard line, then was stripped of the football. Reserve tailback D’Brian Hudgins picked up the loose ball in the end zone, giving N.C. A&T a 27-20 lead with 2:46 left.

Elon quarterback C.W. Singletary fumbled the ball after a hit by linebacker Chamar Milton. Aggie safety Charles Parham pounced on the ball, setting up a 32-yard TD run by Waddell Thomas for the final margin. Douglas had a productive evening, throwing for 269 yards and two touchdowns while completing 12 of 26 passes.

Jones caught three passes for 113 yards, while Micheaux Hollingsworth added a 24-yard touchdown reception among his two catches for 45 yards. Thomas rushed for 60 yards on 12 carries and scored two touchdowns. Jason Horton led the Aggie defense with 11 tackles (six solos) and an interception, while Vereese Utley added 10 (seven solos). Montrail Pittman turned in an all around game, as he made seven tackles, an interception, a fumble recovery and a blocked field goal.

Singletary led the Phoenix (2-2) with 140 yards rushing on 26 carries and two touchdowns. Rashaud Palmer chipped in with 88 yards on 20 carries. Mike Warren led Elon’s defense with seven tackles. N.C. A&T will host Norfolk State in an MEAC contest at Aggie Stadium next Saturday. Kickoff is set for 6:00 PM.
