Morris Brown 44, Clark Atlanta 7In the 85th match up between AUC rivals Morris Brown College and Clark Atlanta University, things seemed not to favor the visiting Wolverines. The Panthers entered the game with a winning record (2-1), and had an offense that averaged 225 rushing yards while the MBC defense had surrendered 234 yards per game on the ground in its previous three game. However, when it comes to this age-old battle between these two Atlanta schools, which dates back to 1913, records and stats can be thrown out the window, as the Wolverines (0-3) captured a 44-7 victory over CAU, their 54th win in the series. A previously porous Morris Brown defense that has been tattered by the offenses of Florida A&M and Bethune Cookman the past two weeks, set the tempo in the first quarter. Scoring twice on fumbles inside the CAU 20 yard line. Except for a 61 yard touchdown from quarterback Dominique Brown that gave the Panthers a 7-6 lead with 11:42 left in the first quarter, Morris Brown would use their size and strength in containing the Panther rushing offense, ranked 20th in Division II, to 185 yards in the 44-7 win. Red shirt freshman Myshyne McAlphine (5'9, 185 lbs) had a coming out party as he lead a trio of Morris Brown rushing backs with at least 60 rushing yards. The Wolverines had 339 total rushing yards, with McAlphine accounting for 165 of them. The Montgomery, Alabama native had two rushes for 31 yds and 35 yds to amass 111 yards in the first half. Another person using the CAU game as a coming out party was quarterback Ralph Gordon (6'0, 200lbs). After co-chairing the offense with junior Kalley Young after a season ending injury to quarterback Stanley Hardy. Gordon, a red-shirt sophomore seemed to have stabilized himself as the Wolverines signal caller after leading MBC on three of its final four scoring drives in the second quarter, throwing for 77 yards and one touchdown. Morris Brown was able to contain the "Hambone" offense thanks in large part to linebacker Torres Mozley. Mozley, a product of Atlanta's Washington High School, contained the Panthers rushing offense with 10 total tackles, 8 solo tackles, including scoring the game's first points with a 24 yard fumble return on the second play from scrimmage. Morris Brown returns to action on September 28, at Herndon Stadium against the Bison of Howard University. Game time is set for 7:00 pm
