Albany State 34, Benedict 2The Albany State University Golden Rams whipped Benedict College, 34-2, spoiling the Tigers' chances at a Nov. 2 homecoming victory in Columbia, SC. Golden Rams senior quarterback Warin Major dazzled a crowd of 5,158 fans by passing for 195 yards and two touchdowns for the Golden Rams. Major also garnered 47 rushing yards on nine carries.ASU took a 3-0 lead late in the first quarter after freshman Adrian Arango kicked a 21-yard field goal. The Golden Rams scored again with just four seconds off the clock in the second quarter when freshman Bryan Thomas caught a 45-yard pass from Major to up the score to 10-0. Late in the second quarter, Kerenski McGhee rushed for four yards and Arango kicked an 18-yard field goal to give the Golden Rams a 20-0 lead a halftime. Major connected with Clenton Rafe on a 43-yard pass early in the third quarter and Adrian Cockfield caught a 14-yard pass from freshman quarterback Hosea Harris to seal the Rams' 34-2 victory. The Tigers scored in the fourth quarter on a safety. The Golden Rams, now 5-4, 4-2, gained 341 yards of total offense. ASU's "Dirty Blue" defense held Benedict to 157 total offensive yards. The Rams passed for 214 yards, completing 14 of 25 passes and rushed 127 yards on 33 carries. The Tigers fall to a 2-7, 1-6 record. The Golden Rams and the Morehouse College Maroon Tigers will meet in the Sixth Annual Gold Coast Classic in San Diego, CA on Nov. 9. Kickoff for the SIAC matchup is 3 p.m. (PST) at QualComm Stadium.
