Rider showed no signs of Friday's 38-point loss in the first
half of action, as it held UMES in check throughout the first-half,
holding the Lady Hawks to a dismal 28 percent shooting percentage
in the first 20 minutes of action. Katie Hall paced the Broncos
in the first half of play with 11 points including a sizzling
3 for 5 from behind the arc to give Rider a 44-36 half-time lead.
The second half was like night and day for Lady Hawks as they
rallied to overcome the eight-point half-time deficit thanks to
Tiffany Winkfield who led UMES with 17 points. After Neferteria
Franklin drained a three-pointer to give UMES its first lead of
the second half, the Lady Hawks never looked back outscoring Rider
21-15 over the final nine minutes of play to seal the win.
Winkfield was joined in double figures by teammates Zerenna Stephens
(12), Franklin (10) Tekeya Gooden (11). In the loss Katie Hall
poured in 20 points for Rider.
