UMES Downs Rider in Terrapin Classic Consolation Game

COLLEGE PARK, MD- In the 2002 Terrapin Classic consolation game, UMES overcame a dismal first half performance to knock off Rider 79-75 Saturday afternoon at Comcast Center. UMES used a strong second half to overcome an eight-point half-time deficit to earn the victory.
Md-Eastern Shore's Tiffany Winkfield scores two of her 17 points in the Terrapin Classic Consolation Game at College Park, MD. Winkfield was named to the all-tournament team.

Rider showed no signs of Friday's 38-point loss in the first half of action, as it held UMES in check throughout the first-half, holding the Lady Hawks to a dismal 28 percent shooting percentage in the first 20 minutes of action. Katie Hall paced the Broncos in the first half of play with 11 points including a sizzling 3 for 5 from behind the arc to give Rider a 44-36 half-time lead.

The second half was like night and day for Lady Hawks as they rallied to overcome the eight-point half-time deficit thanks to Tiffany Winkfield who led UMES with 17 points. After Neferteria Franklin drained a three-pointer to give UMES its first lead of the second half, the Lady Hawks never looked back outscoring Rider 21-15 over the final nine minutes of play to seal the win.

Winkfield was joined in double figures by teammates Zerenna Stephens (12), Franklin (10) Tekeya Gooden (11). In the loss Katie Hall poured in 20 points for Rider.
