Xavier Gold Nuggets beat Livingstone Lady Bears

Salisbury, NC---In a game that brought two teams together for the first time
in school history, The Xavier Gold Nuggets showed that it had no
effects from its long road trip to North Carolina for the Thanksgiving
Holiday. The Gold Nuggets dominated the game from start to finish to
prevail to a 78-44 trampling of The Livingstone College Lady Blue Bears in
New Trent Gymnasium.
After the opening tip-off, Xavier came out ready to play opening up a
commanding 28-9 lead with over 7:00 minutes left in the half and never
looked back. Livingstone found its rhythm with a little over 4:00 minutes
in the first half to put on a 9-0 run to come within ten led by the play of
Angela Thomas. At the half, the Gold Nuggets held a 37-21 lead behind
the solid shooting efforts of Alishiean Graham and Portia Jones who scored
10 and 8 points respectively.
In the second half, Xavier continued its full court pressure to force the
Lady Blue Bears into a deeper hole increasing its deficit of 58 -31 with
10:36 left in the game. LC continued to struggle from the field and was
out-rebounded by the more aggressive Gold Nuggets.
Xavier was led by Graham’s 18 points on 8-13 shooting leading nine of the
Gold Nuggets in the scoring column. Xavier improves to 5-5 on the
season. Kautelza Richards led the Blue Bears in scoring with 11 points and
Thomas chipped in with 10 points in the losing effort for Livingstone who
dropped to 0-3 on the young season.
The Lady Blue Bears will be in action again on December 3, 2002 when the
Lady Panthers of Virginia Union University comes to Salisbury, North
Carolina. Game Time is schedule for 5:30 p.m.
