Lady Aggies Upset Norfolk State in a Last Second Thriller

(Greensboro, NC) – Mia Glover scored the winning basket
with 2 seconds left in the game to finish with a new career high
of 32 points and 13 rebounds to lead NCA&T (2-12, 2-5 MEAC)
to a 76-73 victory over Norfolk State (5-11, 4-4 MEAC) in a Mid-
Eastern Athletic Conference women’s basketball thriller
at the Corbett Sports Center.
NCA&T had a slow start within the first four minutes of the
game until Camile Akins hit a three pointer to take the first
lead of the half. Both teams went head to head for the remainder
of the first half and went into the locker room tied 35-35. A&T
shot 44 percent from the field while Norfolk only shot 38.
In the second half both teams continued the close play with Glover
scoring 23 of her 32 points. She was
5 of 7 behind the three- point line and 4 for 4 from the charity
stripe. Another Lady Aggie
Tawanda Jackson had a solid half scoring 12 of her 21 points in
the win. As a team, the Lady Aggies finished the game 16 of 20
from the free throw line and was 10 of 20 from behind the arc.
Norfolk State’s Renata Phillips finished the game scoring
a double- double with 16 points and 15 rebounds in 30 minutes
of play. LaWanda Newman scored 14 points while Shanae Johnson
finished with 11 in the loss.
The Lady Aggies’ Akins scored in double figures with 13
points and had four assists in the win.
NCA&T will be back in action on Saturday when they host Florida
A&M in a conference game. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
