Lady Bulldogs Lose to Lady Eagles
January 7, 2003
BOWIE, MD---The Bowie State University Lady Bulldogs could not
contain the outside shooting of the Lady Eagles of North Carolina
Central University and fell in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic
Association contest.
Led by Tiona Beatty, who sank three from behind the arc and led
all scorers with 25 points, the Lady Eagles (2-9, 1-3 CIAA) hit
9-of-18 three-point attempts and shot 52 percent from the field
for the night.
The Lady Eagles shooting would be the difference as the Lady
Bulldogs were virtually identical in every other statistical category,
forcing 21 turnovers while turning it over just 12 times. Tiffany
Foster and Nicole Davis would score 17 and 10 points, respectively,
for the Lady Eagles.
The loss halted the Bulldogs (5-6, 3-3) modest two-game winning
streak.
The Bulldogs trailed by a point with just over seven minutes to
play in the first half when the Lady Eagles went on a 14-2 run
to take a 34-20 lead into the half.
The Eagles lead would grow to as much as 20 in the second half,
but after an Allyson Hardy steal and layup, the Bulldogs were
in spitting distance at 70-61 with four minutes to play. A missed
shot and turnover led to points from Davis and Beatty, stretching
the lead back to 13, and while the Bulldogs would get within nine
points once more, just 29 seconds remained in the contest.
Coming off her CIAA Player of the Week award, point guard Allyson
Hardy continued her strong play with 22 points and five assists.
Leketia Berry would chip in to the tune of 19 points and nine
rebounds.
The Bulldogs will next host Fayetteville State University at
5:30 p.m. on Thursday night.
