Howard Falls To Bethune-Cookman on the Road

January 11, 2003

Daytona Beach, FL--Simone Agee had her best all-around game of the season, but a cold shooting performance and several missed scoring opportunities down the stretch proved to be too much to overcome as Howard University dropped an 80-73 decision to Bethune-Cookman College in a women's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game at Moore Gymnasium.

The Wildcats (7-6 overall, 2-1) took control early, leading by as many as 16 before Agee fueled a rally that cut the deficit to five at 76-71 with 1:58 remaining. Howard (1-11 overall, 1-2 in the MEAC) was unable to take advantage as they missed shots on three straight possessions. The Lady Bison did not help themselves in shooting 33 percent from the field (25 of 75) and missing 12 of 31 freee throws.

Bethune-Cookman finally sealed the victory when Edna Lastrapes converted four straight free throws.

Agee, a 5-8 junior guard/forward, kept Howard from being blown out in the second half, with her all-around play. She hit on 6 of 10 from the field, 10 of 12 from the free throw line while adding 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and a blocked shot before fouling out.

Sophomore guard Daisha Hicks added 16 and 5 assists and senior forward Courtney Kirk contributed 12 points, 9 rebounds and a career-high 5 blocks.

The Wildcats were led by Lastrapes (22), Katie Clark (19) and Lauren Forsthoff (10 points, 13 rebounds).

The Lady Bison hope to get back on the winning track when they face Florida A&M University on Monday, January 13 at 5:30 p.m. in Tallahassee, FL.
