ECSU Balance Too Much for Lady Eagles

DURHAM, NC A depleted Elizabeth City State University squad
received significant contributions from several Lady Vikings to earn a
52-44 victory over North Carolina Central University at
McLendon-McDougald Gym in Durham, NC.
In a low scoring battle, six Lady Vikings hit the scoring column,
including a team-best 12 points by Trevia Pittman, nine points by
Angelica Dempsey, Kristal McClendon and Hope Riddick, and eight points
by Venkia Jones.
NCCU junior Nichole Davis amassed her second double-double of the
season with game-highs of 16 points and 10 rebounds, while freshman
Natasha Bailey added nine points and nine boards.
ECSU (7-15, 2-11 CIAA) pushed a 27-22 halftime advantage to a 40-29
lead at 10:55 of the second stanza.
NCCU (5-17, 4-8 CIAA) then went on a 9-2 run, which included two
triples by Davis, to cut the deficit to 42-38 at 5:45.
After the Lady Vikings pushed the lead to seven points on two
occasions, the Lady Eagles again cut the margin to four points, 48-44,
with 56 seconds to play.
NCCU, however, missed its final two field goals, committed a
turnover and surrendered an offensive rebound on a missed free throw, as
ECSU snapped its three-game losing skid.
