VUU Lady Panthers Edge Livingstone

Salisbury, NC - The Lady Blue Bears of Livingstone College battled in a tough CIAA match-up against the Lady Panthers of Virginia Union University. As the final seconds ticked off the clock, Angela Thomas’ final attempt to tie the game rimmed out at the buzzer. The Lady Panthers improves to 4-0 on the season as the Lady Blue Bears dropped a heart-felt decision 54-52; falling to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in the conference play.

Livingstone maintained the lead the entire first half for a 25-19 score. LC improved in its defensive play to grab nine steals and force 19 turnovers in the half. After the break, the Lady Blue Bears continued the defensive pressure and offensive scoring to increase the lead by 10. As the teams traded baskets, VUU slowly positioned them to trail within four. A pair of free throws by Union’s Shanell Roberts (2:13 on the clock) tied the game at 52 while turnovers and intensified defense ate away from the game.

Angela Thomas led the effort for the Lady Blue Bears with her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Chloe McInnis also finished with her first double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Seven other players contributed in the scoring effort.

The Lady Panthers where led by Danielle “Big D” Hoggard. She finished with a double-double (12 points and 14 rebounds) while Shanell Roberts finished with 12 points.

Livingstone will host Mars Hills Lady Lions tomorrow night in New Trent Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m. Mars Hill played in last season’s NCAA Elite Eight.
