Preseason Football Report
Young ASU Hornets are making the Transition from High
School to College Football
8/15/01
Montgomery, Ala. - The Alabama State University
Hornets finished their second day of practice with
eight players receiving injuries.
“We are falling out like flies out here. It has been
very hot out here. I think our guys holding in, but
we had eight guys to go down with cramps. They are
young guys and they are getting introduced to college
football. I hope to have better day, when the varsity
players come in. You only have so many freshman and
they are running so many repetitions and they are not
use to that,” said second year head football coach
L.C. Cole.
The Hornets varsity team reported today for their
physical and orientation and they will hit the field
on Friday in shorts and helmets.
“I think the freshman players will be very happy when
the varsity players come in, because all of the
attention will focus on the varsity players and not on
them. Sometime when the varsity players come in the
young guys seemed to get discouraged. I hope that
does not happen with this group of freshman. But when
the varsity comes in, you have more people in you
position and you do not get to go as many times in
your repetition,” said Cole.
The evening workouts for the freshman players
consisted of individual workouts, group workouts and
offensive and defensive drills.
