Alabama State's Cole is looking forward to Wednesday’s
Scrimmage

The Alabama State University Hornets has stepped it
and are beginning to look like a finally tune machine.
“The intensity has increase and we are much more
ahead of our selves, than this time last year,” said
second year coach L.C. Cole.
“Our kids are challenging each other every day for
the starting position. Brendon Boatwright and Andre
Ward are battling each other for the starting running
back position. Jermaine Crenshaw is really giving
Darnell Kennedy a push for the starting quarterback
position. I am look forward to our scrimmage on
Monday.” said Cole.
The Hornet will hold their first inner squad
scrimmage on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Hornet Stadium.
Boatwright is a 6-foot-2 junior running back from
Lakeland, Fla., where as Ward is a 5-foot-10 senior
running back from Miami, Fla. Last season, Ward led
the Hornets in rushing, averaging 50 yards per game.
He finished the 2000 season with 250 yards rushing on
65 carries.
Crenshaw, a 6-foot-2, junior quarter back from
Greenville, Ala., who transferred from Georgia Tech
University. Kennedy, a 6-foot senior quarterback from
Mobile, Ala., led the Southwestern Athletic Conference
in passing with 3,488 yards passing, that ranked him
12th in Division I-AA.
Alabama State University will hold a boat ride at
Riverfront Park aboard the Betsy Anne River Boat for
all senior football players to meet and greet ASU
alumni and fans on Aug. 29, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Admission to board the Betsy Anne will be $6. For

Coach L.C. Cole, head football coach of the Alabama
State University Hornets will hold a weekly press
conference every Monday at the Governors House Hotel
and Conference Center from Noon to 1 p.m., starting
Monday, Sept. 3.
Alabama State will host Alcorn State University on
Saturday, Sept. 8, at Cramton Bowl for their season
opener. Kick off is schedule for 6:30 p.m.
