ASU's Cole cannot wait for Varsity to Hit the Field
8/17/01
Montgomery, Ala. - The Alabama State University
Hornets will took Thursday off and will start bright
and early Friday morning with weight training in the
morning and will hit the field in helmets and shorts
in the evening portion of practice at 6 p.m. This
will be the first official practice for the varsity
and third official practice for the freshman and
newcomers’ football players.
“I can’t wait for the varsity to hit the field, so we
can separate the players that want to play and those
who do not want to play,” said second year coach L. C.
Cole. “I am also excited too about having everybody
in camp. They all came into camp in shape and ready
to work,” said Cole.
Today, the Hornets will conduct individual work
outs and group work outs along with basic offensive
and defensive formation.
The Hornets will host Alcorn State University on
Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Cramton Bowl for their
season opener. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
“I do not like having an open date for your first
game of the season. Alcorn will have played Grambling
the week before and that gives them a game more of
experience, than us,” said Cole.
The Alabama State Hornets will hold their annual fan
appreciation and picture day on Saturday, Aug. 18 at
the Cramton Bowl from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Alabama State University will hold a boat ride at
Riverfront Park aboard the Betsy Anne River Boat for
all senior football players to meet and greet ASU
alumni and fans on Aug. 29, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Admission to board the Betsy Anne will be $6. For
more information, you can contact the ASU football
office at (334) 229-4444 or Coach Johnnie Cole at
(334) 229-7622.
