May 4, 2002

Hampton, VA - The Hampton University men and women's tennis teams are set to travel to the NCAA Tournament. The selection shows were held on Thursday evening at 6:30 and 7:00 through a live broadcast via the internet.

The Pirate men's tennis team will travel out west to beautiful Los Angeles, California. Hampton will take on the Aztecs of San Diego State University on the courts of the University of California at Los Angeles. UCLA will be the host of this particular West Regional.

Other teams in the men's bracket in this bracket include the University of California at Santa Barbara Gauchos and, of course, the UCLA Bruins.

The Pirates were happy to be going, and seniors Pyung Koo Lee and Tomas Ibler shared their excitement with the crowd. "We are happy to be going, and we know that we will represent Pirate Pride very well," stated Lee. "We will do the best we can, but getting there still feels good," continued Ibler. The two seniors will play both singles and doubles matches, as the "Dynamic Duo: Part 2" look to continue their winning ways on May 11 and 12 against the Aztecs of SDSU.

The Men's Tennis Championships will be held in Aggie Land, USA-College Station, Texas-home of the Aggies of Texas A&M University.

The Lady Pirates tennis squad will not have to travel far, as they will venture two states down to the capitol city of Columbia, South Carolina. There, the Lady Pirates will battle with host University of South Carolina Gamecocks. The games are scheduled for May 11 and 12.

Other teams in this particular South Region bracket include teams from the Capitol city. There are the Rams of Virginia Commonwealth University from Richmond, the Seminoles of Florida State University from Tallahassee, and the Gamecocks of the University of South Carolina from Columbia.

The Women's Tennis Championships will be held in Stanford, California with the Cardinal of Stanford University playing host to the participants.
