AAMU’s Webster Selected for Deaf Sports Federation Team

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (June 17) ­ Davida Webster, a junior forward on the Alabama A&M women’s basketball team, has been selected as one of ten members of the USA Deaf Sports Federation (USADSF) team to represent the United States this summer at the World Deaf Basketball Championships in Athens, Greece this July.

Webster, better known for her three-point shooting, was a standout forward at Hazel Green High School before joining the Bulldogs for the 2000-2001 season. For her career, she has averaged 5.4 ppg and 2.0 rpg for the Bulldogs. She has connected on 50 of 190 three-point attempts and has proved to be a solid shooter at the free throw line with a 72% average.

Deb Ayres will coach the women’s team for the WDBC. She is currently the head coach of the varsity girls’ team at California School for the Deaf, Fremont. Prior to assuming her present position, Ayres served as the head coach Cal State University-Fullerton and also as graduate assistant coach to Pat Summitt at University of Tennessee.

The World Championships will be held from July 19 through July 27 in Greece. The team will arrive in Greece on July 13, a week before competition begins for practice.
