Coppin State Dismisses Two Players from Men's Basketball TeamJanuary 4, 2002BALTIMORE-Coppin State head men's basketball coach Ron "Fang" Mitchell announced that senior Donnell Thomas (Durant, Miss./Durant H.S.) and sophomore LeMar Ruffin (Murrieta, Calif./Chaparral H.S.) have been dismissed from the squad for violation of team rules. Thomas, a 6-foot-8 post player, had seen action in all 14 of the Eagles' games, including eight as a starter, and was averaging 3.7 points and 3.6 rebounds. Last season, his first at Coppin after two years at the junior college level, he averaged 4.8 rebounds to rank third on the team. Ruffin, a 6-8 forward, had played in only one game this season as a reserve and failed to score. He averaged 1.0 points and 0.7 rebounds in 20 games last year. Coppin (3-11, 1-2 MEAC) visits Delaware State on Saturday at 4 p.m.
