Mark Orlando Leaves Southern To Lead Offense At Texas SouthernDecember 12, 2001Houston-TX-Texas Southern University has hired Mark Orlando as football offensive coordinator. Orlando served as offensive coordinator at Southern University for nine seasons. At Southern, Orlando's offensive unit was ranked in the SWAC's top five for six seasons. He was also instrumental in diagramming plays for the Jaguars three-consecutive SWAC championship teams from 1996-1999. Head Football Coach Bill Thomas said he was ecstatic about bringing Orlando to Texas Southern. "We are very fortunate to have a guy with his credentials," Thomas said. "He is a tremendous football coach and educator. "He brings a winning attitude and a proven offensive track record." In fact, Orlando has amassed an impressive 173 wins in stops ranging from Southern (79 wins, eight seasons), Winston Salem State (16 wins, two seasons), Tennessee State (34 wins, five seasons) and Florida A&M (44 wins, six seasons). Orlando is a 1975 graduate of Florida State University, where he was the starting quarterback for one season. He also holds a master's degree in physical education from Florida A&M. Orlando is married with two children.
