Oglesby Scores Five Points in NFL DebutDecember 24, 2001
Former South Carolina State Bulldog Cedric Oglesby kicked a 34-yard field goal and two extra points to help the Arizona Cardinals to a 17-10 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, Saturday. Oglesby was signed by the Cardinals following an injury to rookie Bill Gramatica. He went to mini-camp with the Cowboys in 2000 and to training camp with the San Diego Chargers this past summer and was working as a substitute teacher in Atlanta when he got the call from the Cardinals. In his NFL debut, Oglesby kicked off, scored all of his points in the second quarter and missed a 35-yard field goal attempt in the third quarter. The win snapped a two-game Arizona losing streak and evened the final two-game season series with the Cowboys at one win each. The 5-11, 175-pound native of Decatur, Georgia booted 21 field goals as a collegiate player at S.C. State, including a long of 52 yards. Oglesby is believed to be the first ever placekicker from the MEAC to kick in the NFL.
