Saint Paul's seals deal with SealsAugust 24, 2001The wait is over for Saint Paul’s College. Jerry Seals takes over the reigns as the new Head Men’s Basketball coach for the Tigers.
Seals has been Head Coach at Clinton Jr. College in South Carolina. Seals’ background indicates a great deal of attention to defense. He intends to bring a high intensity with his man-to-man defense. He indends to use the quickness of his guards and big men on the low post as part of a swarming defense. “ Everybody on this team is versatile. It is not going to be a two man game. It is a team game. This is a scoring team with potential,” states Seals. Inheriting a 5-22 record and a young team Seals will have to prove that the Tigers will be a major player in the CIAA. “I see this team as a .500 team. Not only is the team quick, we have deadly shooters and strong low position players," Seals said. He has returning 2001 CIAA Player of the Year Derrick Singleton of Winston-Salem N.C. back to anchor the team. Singleton returns this year with a 16.5 ppg and while leading the conference in rebounding with 9.9 rpg. and will be playing in the "3" position.
