Black College Sports Network LaunchedAugust 22, 2001A pair of Florida A&M graduates have formed a network to serve HBCU sports fans. Roy M. Eavins II and Bryan Fulford have created The Black College Sports Network (BCSN) as the first media network dedicated to providing fans of Historically Black Colleges and Universities with the most in-depth coverage of all sports, with features and profiles of players, coaches, programs and schools. Their effort will attempt to provide a greater exposure for all HBCU's. Media components of the BCSN will cover HBCU athletics from four different mediums: the Internet, Radio, Television and Print. Beginning August 23, 2001, the BCSN will launch www.blackcollegesportsnetwork.com, along with a weekly 2-hour radio show that will be distributed via the website, and to college and commercial radio stations called, BCSN Sports Wrap. Sports Wrap will cover the seasonal sports and discuss the relevant issues, and topics affecting Black College Athletics, as well as features and interviews with individuals that coach, play and cover the games. Soon after, a weekly insert will be provided to African-American and Black College newspapers across the country called, The Black College Sports Network Sportspage. The final component to launch will be a weekly television program called, the BCSN Sports Weekly. In July 2001, the BCSN formed strategic alliances with MEACFans.com, The SWACPage.com, Onnidan.com and HBCUNetwork.com in an effort to provide the most up-to-date information and statistics for I-AA and Division II Black College athletic programs via these various mediums.
"The HBCU Network looks forward to working with the Black College Sports Network. Bringing the latest news and updates on HBCU sports will be a great addition to our online community, HBCUnetwork.com. We also foresee numerous opportunities for collaboration on our offline initiatives as well."
"I always knew at sometime or another a partnership like this eventually would develop. It had to happen in order for black college sports to get to that next level. What makes this partnership so unique is that it involves HBCU content related sites that focused on specific audiences. Everyone of the websites involved in this partnership compliments the other perfectly and they are all highly regarded." We look forward to working with the various HBCU athletic departments as we strive to elevate the exposure of Black College Athletic programs to new heights.
