Bowie State Bulldogs have full slate for 2002 footballApril 8, 2002BOWIE, MD----After having one of their finest seasons in a decade in which they went 7-3 in 2001, the Bowie State University Bulldogs will return with a full slate of 10 games in 2002 as released by the University's athletic department. The Bulldogs will have seven contests against Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association competition. Their three out-of-conference matchups against West Virginia State College, Morehouse College and (Division IAA) Hampton University are all on the road. After their season-opener on the road at West Virginia State College on August 31, the Bulldogs will return home for the next two Saturdays to face CIAA Western Division opponents Johnson C. Smith University and Winston-Salem State University, teams they lost to by a combined total of five points in 2001. The Bulldogs will be back on the road for the last two weeks of September, traveling to St. Augustine's College, which instituted football for the 2002 season, and to Atlanta, GA, to face Morehouse College. The Bulldogs will open their CIAA Eastern Division competition on October
5 when they host Virginia Union University. The Bulldogs beat the Panthers
in 2001 and were a perfect 3-0 in the Eastern Division in 2001, but did
not advance to the CIAA Championship game because the Panthers had a better
overall conference record. The Bulldogs will travel to Hampton University
the following week, then return home on October 19th for their Homecoming
tilt with Elizabeth City State University. Saturday the 26th will be an
open date for the Bulldogs, then will finish their schedule in November,
traveling to Fayetteville State University and hosting Virginia State
University on consecutive Saturdays. BOWIE STATE UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS
