Florida A&M 47, Norfolk State 9Tallahassee, FL- Quinn Gray passed for 243 yards and three touchdowns as Florida A&M rolled past the Spartans of Norfolk State University 47-9 in front of 28,987 Homecoming fans.NSU (3-3, 1-3 MEAC) could never get on track offensively, as they fell behind 13-0 after the first quarter. O.J. Marchbanks got the Rattlers on the scoreboard first, with a two-yard run at the 8:37 mark of the first quarter. The Rattlers would strike again six plays later, as Nakia Bynum returned a blocked punt six yards for a touchdown to extend the FAMU lead to 13-0. Florida A&M (5-2, 5-1 MEAC) continued to roll in the second quarter, as Norfolk State could only muster minus one yard of total offense in the first half. Gray would hook up with Marco Junious on a 47-yard touchdown strike to push the FAMU lead to 21-0, with 10:36 left in the second quarter. FAMU would add two more touchdowns before halftime. A seven-yard touchdown pass from Gray to DeÕMar Bowe and Charles Allen hauled in a 32-yard touchdown catch to give the Rattlers a commanding 34-0 halftime lead. FAMU dominated on defense, as they sacked Norfolk State nine times for 56 yards. The Spartans managed only three yards rushing the entire day and 101 yards of total offense on 60 offensive plays. O.J. Marchbanks scored on a 35-yard touchdown scamper, with 12:39 left in the third as FAMU went ahead 41-0. Kelsie Lordeus finished the scoring for the Rattlers on a five-yard run that gave the Rattlers their biggest lead of the day 47-0, with 5:39 left in the third quarter. NSU defensive lineman Jamal Naji blocked the point after attempt, and cornerback Leon Grove returned it for two points to end the shutout. Norfolk State scored itÕs only touchdown of the day, as Jon Roberts connected with Howard Gilmore from 10-yards out with 5:42 left in the game. Roberts completed 7-22 passes for 98 yards and one touchdown to lead the Spartan offense. Vaughan McAfee recorded 11 tackles to lead the Spartan defense. Norfolk State University will celebrate Homecoming 2001 next Saturday as they host Howard University. Game time is set for 1:00pm. Florida A&M will travel to Hampton next week.
